Artist Statement
In my work painting and sculpting animals I have come to admire the beauty and complexity of the structure of animals - such beauty that does its job so well, from greyhounds and racehorses and cheetahs who are built for speed, to the difference in the angles of attachment of the muscles and bones of the draught horses who helped build our world, and the poor little donkeys who still do so.
Representational Art has been rather sniffed at by people who see art in abstract forms.
But I would say that it is very difficult to get the correct representation of a loved and living creature. There are no easy excuses if you can't do it!
It's no good saying "Well that's the way I see it" or "that is my interpretation". Owners of beautiful creatures want as near as possible their own loved friend, not an arty, crafty abstract!
